Garden planning tools

Gardening calculators that work together

Start with local frost risk, choose an outdoor planting date, calculate indoor work and save the resulting tasks for the season. Each tool shows what it knows and what still requires a forecast, seed packet or garden check.

Indoor growing

Seed-starting calculator

Choose an outdoor planting date and count backward with reviewed crop-specific indoor lead times.

A practical order for planning

  1. 1. Check frost risk

Use historical probabilities as context, then review the current forecast before planting.

  2. 2. Choose the outdoor date

Combine frost, soil temperature, nighttime lows and the crop's own conditions.

  3. 3. Save the tasks

Keep the plan on this device and return as each sowing, hardening and planting date approaches.

Why the tools ask for your date

USDA hardiness Zones describe long-term winter cold, not a universal vegetable planting day. The calculators use dates and crop conditions that are closer to the actual decision.

Why results remain estimates

Historical climate records, published growing times and packet maturity days cannot predict this season's weather or a specific garden bed. Results are checkpoints for a gardener to verify.
